Description

Acinetobacter baumannii is a Gram-negative bacterium ranked as a top critical priority by both WHO and CDC due to resistance to last-resort antibiotics. New alternative therapies are therefore urgently required to combat this increasingly resistant pathogen. Classical strategies to develop new antibiotics have been impaired by both the lack of novel central scaffolds and by the rapid emergence of bacterial resistance. Moreover, the concept of personalized medicine is rapidly emerging, thus opening the search for novel personalized antibacterial agents. The latter would lower the side-effects, decrease or delay the resistance processes and preserve the host microbiota.

The TADAM project proposes to explore a novel way to discover and develop antibacterial agents specifically directed towards A. baumannii. This interdisciplinary project is based on the development of dynamic materials (also called DCFs).
