Following the publication of Introduction à la Sociologie Médiévale, the present project aims to develop the ideas presented in that work. The medieval reflexivity applied to sociological notions, already put into practice in the seminar Max Weber’s Middle Ages, will be applied to all the systems of notions relating to the medieval ‘religious’, through an investigation devoted to the genesis, structure and disruption of the ecclesial field in the Middle Ages, which was both autonomous and dominant.
The aim of this investigation is to fully implement the conceptual feedback of medieval sociology by analysing a historical period using notions revisited by the historiographical updating specific to that period. While the title is a transparent reference to Pierre Bourdieu’s 1971 article, the synthetic nature of this article makes it a gateway to the whole of classical sociology of the symbolic.
After an agrégation in history in 2009, I obtained my doctorate in medieval history in 2016. Having mainly taught in secondary schools, I have also given courses at the universities of Clermont and Angers. For the past four years, I have been leading a seminar (ENS-EHESS) devoted to Max Weber’s Middle Ages.
