Let’s shine a light on another brilliant researcher from the Come 2 Wallonia | Connect with Wallonia programme: Noémie Guirandy, hosted at UNamur 🌿
Her project dives deep into ecotoxicology and epigenetics, with a particular focus on ethinylestradiol (EE2)—a synthetic hormone used in birth control pills that ends up in aquatic ecosystems.
🐟 Using Kryptolebias marmoratus, a mangrove fish, as a model, Noémie is conducting multigenerational experiments to study how EE2 affects physiology, evolution, and population dynamics.
She’s also identifying epigenetic biomarkers to detect long-term pollution effects—essential tools to better protect aquatic biodiversity.
🌍 Her work blends ecology, molecular biology, and innovation, all within the dynamic environment of UNamur’s Environmental and Evolutionary Biology Unit.
