Description

The relationship between literature and cinema has been extensively explored, covering topics from adaptation processes to audience reception. Surprisingly, interactions between the film industry and Italian publishing have received limited scholarly attention. By mapping intellectual networks and publication dynamics, this project explores how film directors affected Italian publishing houses’ catalogs in the 1960s-1980s. On the one hand, PubCiNET investigates the contribution of film directors to Italian publishing. On the other hand, the study delves into the rise of book series and publications dedicated to cinema. PubCiNET thus relies on a sociological approach that combines the history of publishing and the history of cinema, integrating them with film and text analysis. By using digital humanities tools, the model will broaden the studies concerning the influence of different creative industries on the book market and open new paths in the research field of Cultural Heritage.

Biography

In 2023, I earned my Ph.D. with a double degree through joint supervision from the University for Foreigners of Siena and the University of Caen Normandy. My doctoral thesis focused on the autobiographies of Italian and French publishers, spanning from the latter half of the 19th century to the present. Currently, I serve as a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Mons in Belgium, leading a project investigating the interplay between the film industry and the publishing market. I am the author of the monograph La memoria, la storia e la Forma. Percorsi autobiografici di Roberto Calasso autore-editore (Peter Lang, 2023). Since 2020, I have been collaborating with the research group Passeurs/Passaggi, which investigates the reception and imaginary of Italian literature abroad. I also edited the volume Passeurs. La Literatura italiana fuera de Italia (1945-1989). Recepción e Imaginario (Edizioni dell’Universidad de Buenos Aires, 2023). From 2023, I am on the editorial board of the scientific journal “RiTra. Rivista di traduzione. Teorie pratiche storie”. In the academic year 2020/2021, I taught Compréhension/Expression orale/écrite at the University of Caen Normandy (68h). My contributions to the field include articles on the history of publishing and active participation in national and international conferences, where I presented research on the reception of Italian literature abroad and the pivotal role of cultural mediators. I am member of AIUCD (Associazione per l’Informatica Umanistica e la Cultura Digitale), eadh (European Association for Digital Humanities), and CAIS (Canadian Association for Italian Studies).
