Title

The Political Economy of Congolese Development

Description

I propose investigating the legacies of Congolese history on socio-economic development. This research project focuses on the phenomena of persistence and aims at understanding them better to explain current Congolese’s socio- economic circumstances (poverty, education, entrepreneurship, cultures, etc). Thus, this project questions the contemporary evolutions of the Congolese society by linking the past to the present to inform public decision-makers and civil society. This project first focuse on colonial plantations and their effects on long-term development. Second, the project focuses on the roles of Christian missions in the formation of the post-independence political elite.
